I'm not usually a Valentines Day sort of girl. Only because I think you should try to do things all year long for the person you love. We usually do something to celebrate our anniversary and Valentines together because they are only a week apart. I wasn't really expecting anything besides dinner out but this year I was spoiled.
It started Friday night. Hubster came home and said we needed to make a trip to the grocery store. We went out together and picked up all the fixings for a yummy cheese fondue, including the fondue set itself and a nice bottle of white wine. In my head I assumed this was our romantic night at home and I was thrilled. Who doesn't love things dipped in melted cheese paired with a good wine?
Saturday morning we had to visit a venue we are considering for our Fait Au Canada event in
September. I was running up the stairs after my shower when I stopped dead in my tracks upon seeing a beautiful bouquet of kitty friendly flowers awaiting me. I was so touched. We hurried off to see the venue and after we finished up Hubster told me we were going to pick up some snowshoes from the village recreation center. They are free to use for residents. We then went snowshoeing (my first time) at the local waterfall. We hiked all through the trails and even crossed a shallow frozen river to a little island where Hubster set up a nice little mat for us to sit and pulled out some hot chocolate he had prepared in advance. We sat, with tiny snowflakes falling all around us, listening to the cracking of the ice. It was so incredibly beautiful. I have really missed the hiking we used to do back home in BC all year long so I think snowshoeing is something we will definitely be doing more often.
So I really thought that was it. How could anything top what we had done so far? Hubster announced we had dinner reservations at a place I've been waiting to go to since we moved here. I told him we
should cancel and just enjoy a nice night in. He suggested we take a quick run to the grocery store for sushi ingredients we were missing. So we went out and arrived at the liquor store just in time before they closed. I was literally the last one in. Then we picked up our fresh ingredients at the grocery and came home to prepare our meal together.
Rawdon does have a sushi place but it was much more fun to create our own rolls the way we like them. We took them downstairs to eat by the fire. I have to say.. I'm not sure I'm a fan of Sake but the rest was delicious.
Sunday morning we visited a second venue option for our event and then made our way to Montreal to have dim sum with some friends and then did a little shopping in Chinatown. Hubster had made plans for us to visit the Biodome but I was a little tired so we went up to the top of the Mount Royal Mountain and enjoyed some sweet treats from one of the excellent bakeries in Chinatown instead. Then it was back home to catch up on some things here and settle in for a night of Walking Dead. We all know that nothing ends a romantic weekend better than apocalyptic zombies.
I think the best part about the weekend was how we were able to do so many things together and have an amazing time without spending a lot of money. We tried new things locally. Almost everything we did supported local or small businesses. I have to say I just felt so loved and appreciated. A lot of
small touches were what really made me feel special. Like how Hubster knew my favorite flowers but took the time to research if they were safe for kitties, which they were not, and went with a bouquet he picked himself instead. It's all the little things that mean so much.
Just to leave things on a bit of a comical note I added this photo to show why "kitty safe" flowers are important in our household. I like to think of it as them putting their personal stamp on a fantastic weekend. =^..^=
What did you this weekend? Do your kitties like to add their personal stamp to the lovely things in your home? I love to read your thoughts and comments.
